Hello everyone,
As you may know, it’s been a rough couple of months with my dad. He ended up passing a few weeks ago, but fortunately, I was able to spend his entire last day by his side. In January I went out for a few weeks but had to come home for some job interviews, and I was planning on going back, but I ended up heading there a bit early. This was because his phone broke. Not being able to communicate with him at all, I decided to expedite my return and he passed the day after I arrived. Although I’m in a state of grief, I’m eternally grateful that his phone stopped working because it got me to fly out a few weeks early and properly see him out. He didn’t leave this world alone, and he knew that he was loved. Despite being a “bad dad” by some people’s standards, I wouldn’t have traded him for anyone else. I love him more than I’ve ever loved any thing in my life. And I will honor him until the day I die.
On a more positive note, my book is finally up on Amazon for pre-order. Please go check it out, and if you’ve enjoyed my writing at all here, you’ll probably enjoy the book. The last year has been a wild ride, from going on the news to getting a book deal to actually seeing my book on the Amazon page. Thanks for riding it with me. Pre-order link below:
Just ordered my copy!!!! Can’t wait. Take care and hope you continue to write.
I pre-ordered my copy today and have that June 25th release date circled on my calendar!
All the excerpts you have shared with us on your substack have convinced me that this book - more than just being a riveting personal account - is important . It is nothing less than an important, educational work.
I'm certain that it's going to make a lot of people uncomfortable. What you've shared so far suggests that American society (is there even such a thing now?) isn't up to the task of addressing homelessness and addiction because it makes every effort to *not* understand the problem. I wish I could be more optimistic, but the realist in me suspects that the short-term reaction to "Crooked Smile" in the media will be something like this:
- The Left will try to discredit you or ignore you in order to maintain their current worldview
- The Right will willfully infer all the wrong conclusions from the book in order to maintain their current worldview
In the long-term, we will not be able to indulge either side in their luxury beliefs. And so you will prevail.
Until that happier time I will do my own small part to try to promote your work.
